
Biotech Unveiled: Concepts, Tools, and Applications 6th to 9th grade
This interactive, project-based course focuses on biotechnology and engages students in three hands-on labs. These activities provide a fun, engaging introduction to biotechnology concepts.
- DNA Fingerprinting: Students use real DNA samples to solve a crime scene mystery, learning to cut and separate DNA through electrophoresis.
- Genes in a Bottle: Students extract their own DNA from cheek cells using lab techniques, then preserve it in a necklace.
PGlo: Students genetically modify bacteria to glow in the dark by transferring a plasmid from jellyfish, learning about genetic engineering and protein creation.
Program Details:
- Class Time: 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. with a break for snack
- Class Dates: Monday (6/16/2025) through Friday (6/20/2025), no class on 6/19
- Location: Gale Ranch Middle School
- Grades: Incoming 6th to 9th grade students
